Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Isn’t in Active Development

It has been nearly a year since Obi-Wan Kenobi wrapped up its six-episode first season, and now Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has finally addressed the future of the Ewan McGregor-led Star Wars series.

During the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy confirmed that they’re currently no plans to develop a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, she clarified that a Season 2 renewal may still be possible in the future, due to director Deborah Chow’s incredible work on the series, as well as McGregor’s eagerness to reprise the titular Jedi once again.

“That is not an active development,” Kennedy said (via Variety). “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again, maybe down the road.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The drama featured the return of Ewan McGregor to the Star Wars universe, as he reprises his iconic role as the titular Jedi master, whom he famously portrayed in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy. It also features the return of fellow Star War alums Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars.

Joining the returning Star Wars alums were franchise newcomers Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Sung Kang (F9: The Fast Saga), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems).
