Eric: Benedict Cumberbatch to Lead Netflix Limited Drama

Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch has finally found his next project with Netflix in the form of a new limited drama titled Eric. Variety brings word that the Doctor Strange star has entered the final negotiations for the leading role in the miniseries, which will see him playing a puppeteer named Vincent who’s desperately looking for his young son, Edgar.

Set in 1980s New York, Eric will be a six-episode miniseries that is written and executive produced by Abi Morgan through her Little Chick banner, with Lucy Forbes set to helm the project. Executive producers are Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke, Carolyn Strauss for Sister.

“The series follows Vincent Sullivan, the lead puppet maker and puppeteer of America’s most popular children’s show, whose life begins to unravel when his young son, Edgar, disappears,” reads the synopsis. “Now homeless and dealing with substance addiction, Vincent finds his only companion is Eric, a seven-foot tall blue puppet, who leads him on a journey to find his son and to find a way home.”

Before starring in Eric, Cumberbatch will first be seen in Netflix’s film adaptation of Road Dahl’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which is directed and written by Wes Anderson. The acclaimed British actor will also star in two drama features including The End We Start From and The Book of Clarence.
