Little Voice on Apple TV+ is your typical yet endearing coming-of-age series. A singer-songwriter struggles to make ends meet in New York. What Are the Critics Saying about Little Voice?

It’s a mixed bag of reactions for Little Voice with a rating of 77% from 30 critics and 81% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes. While most critics have enjoyed the performances of the cast, the too-familiar plotlines and sub-par music have been sore points.

Douglas Laman of The Spool writes, “Recurring shortcomings in Little Voice’s writing ensure that the viewer can’t really develop a bond with Bess. That’s a shame, given that Brittany O’Grady gives an endearing lead performance that lends a greater sense of authenticity to Bess than anything found in the writing.”

Independent’s Ed Cumming makes a pertinent observation when he says, “Great musical TV needs tunes we want to hear. But Bess’s efforts are weedy little numbers, the kind of thing you hear in the corner of a quiet bar rather than indicators of misunderstood genius.”
