Showtime has announced that Lord of the Rings vet Elijah Wood has officially signed on for a season long guest-starring role in the forthcoming second season of Yellowjackets, which is slated to begin its production this month. Wood will be playing the role of citizen detective Walter, who will serve as a challenge to Christina Ricci’s Misty.

In addition, the network has also welcomed Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), as she has been enlisted to portray the adult version of Courtney Eaton’s fan-favorite character Lottie.

Yellowjackets currently stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, and Warren Kole. Season two will introduce Emmy nominated actress Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant) as adult Van Palmer.

“Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama, it tells the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness,” reads the series synopsis. “The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”
