Troy Kotsur to Lead Disney+ Series About Deaf Football Team

Following his historic Oscar win for his performance in last year’s CODA film, Deadline brings word that Troy Kotsur has finally found his next project in the form of an untitled Disney+ series. Kotsur will be playing the coach of a deaf high school football team in the streamer’s next coming-of-age sports series, which will be based on a real-life football team from a California School for the Deaf.

The unnamed project is being developed by Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature for Disney+ after successfully winning the TV rights to the inspiring story in a bidding war against other studios. The series will depict the team’s historical undefeated season and how it earned a spot in the California State Championship game for the first time in school history.

Kotsur is also set to executive produce along with Oscar winner and CODA co-star Marlee Matlin. The studio partners with the California School of the Deaf and the California Department of Education.

It will be written and executive produced by Ben and Ron Shelton, with Kevin Falls serving as the showrunner. Executive producers Bert Salke, Gary Foster, Russ Krasnoff, Rainn Wilson, Jack Jason, Bill Horberg, and Christina Lurie, with John Maucere co-producing as a consultant.
