Rafael Casal Set for ‘Major Role’ in Loki Season 2

Most of Marvel’s Disney+ shows (and most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 films) have been content to do their own thing. Whether introducing a new team or revisiting old friends, the connecting plot threads that typically overwhelm the narrative are subsiding for now. Loki is the one exception, a show that sets up the multiverse concept that will seemingly only get more important as we get further and further from Infinity War.

Loki also did not end with a real sense of finality, paving the way for it to be the first MCU Disney+ show to get a second season. The new episodes are ramping up production, and a report in Variety has revealed that series newcomer Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) is set for a significant role. Casal co-wrote, produced, and starred in 2018’s Blindspotting, and he is a co-creator of the TV spinoff of the same name currently airing on Showtime. Besides those credits, the actor appeared in 2019’s Are You Afraid of the DarkGood Lord Bird, and Bad Education.

It’s unclear what role Casal will take on for his Marvel debut, although Deadline notes that it is a “major role.” Fans have speculated that he could play Zaniac, but that should be taken as a theory, not a certainty. Currently, the official details are under wraps.

Loki‘s second season is still a while out, as the MCU TV schedule is booked for other est of the year. August will see She-Hulk: Attorney at Law run nine episodes through October and needing right before the Werewolf By Knight Halloween special. James Gunn then returns to the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the year for the MCU’s first official Christmas special.
