According to a report by Deadline, the complaints against Savage was investigated and ultimately led to him being removed from the series, which is a reboot of the hit 1988 comedy series that Savage himself starred in. The exact nature of the allegations is unclear, but Deadline notes that they range from “verbal outbursts” to “inappropriate behavior.”

“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of The Wonder Years,” a spokesman for 20th Television said in a statement to Deadline.

These are not the first allegations to be levied against Savage, as actress Alley Mills revealed in 2018 with claims that the original The Wonder Years series was eventually canceled due to “a completely ridiculous sexual harassment suit” against a then 16-year-old Savage. Also in 2018, a crew member on Savage’s series The Grinder filed a lawsuit against him, alleging that he attacked and harassed her on the set of the FOX series in 2015.

The single-camera comedy is helmed by Saladin Patterson (Dave) and Lee Daniels (Empire). Instead of the Arnolds, the show focuses on the Montgomery, Alabama-based Williams family in the 60s. The show focuses on a 12-year-old named Dean played by Elisha Williams. Dule Hill (Psych) and Saycon Sengbloh (In The Dark) play his parents, while Laura Kariuki is his sister. Don Cheadle serves as the narrator, an adult version of Dean.
