Allison Janney Joins Kristen Wiig in Apple’s Mrs. American Pie Series

According to Deadline, Oscar winner Allison Janney has officially signed on to star opposite Emmy nominee Kristen Wiig in Apple Studios’ forthcoming  TV adaptation of Juliet McDaniel’s 2018 novel Mrs. American Pie. The comedy series hails from executive producer Laura Dern, who is also “eyeing a ‘key role'” in the show.

This marks Janney’s first major TV project since the conclusion of the long-running CBS comedy Mom. She will next be seen in the drama film To Leslie, the comedy film The People We Hate at the Wedding, and sci-fi pic True Love.

Set during the powder keg era of the early 1970s, Mrs. American Pie will be directed by Oscar nominee Tate Taylor (The Help) from a screenplay written by Abe Sylvia (Dead to Me), who will be serving as the showrunner.

“A story about gorgeously impossible people, it follows Maxine Simmons’ (Wiig) attempt to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society,” reads the synopsis. “As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, the series asks the same questions that still baffle us today: “Who gets a seat at the table?” “How do you get a seat at the table?” “What will you sacrifice to get there?”
