Yellowjackets Season 2 Eyeing a Late Summer Production Start

Despite Showtime’s initial plans for a later 2022 return, it looks like Yellowjackets might come back sometime next year. In a recent interview with Variety, showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson have confirmed that they’re currently planning to start filming for the upcoming second season of the psychological thriller drama in the late summer of this year.

Lyle and Nickerson also opened up about the current status of Yellowjackets Season 2, confirming that they’re still “in the writing process” and have “just getting started on the actual scripts.” They teased that Season 2 will once again cover the winter storyline from the first season.

“We’ve been in the writers’ room for several months now, and we’re circling a late summer production start,” Lyle said. “We will have to get very creative on a production front. We’re starting those production conversations and we have some really amazing and creative people on our team. So this will be movie magic at play.”

Yellowjackets currently stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, and Warren Kole.

“Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama, it tells the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness,” reads the series synopsis. “The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”
