Renck, who directed all five episodes of the hit HBO series Chernobyl, will direct the first two episodes of Dune: Sisterhood, and will also serve as an executive producer for the upcoming HBO Max series. The pilot for the series was initially set to be directed by Dune director Denis Villeneuve, but his work on the upcoming sequel to Dune will prevent him from doing so.

Renck’s history as a director is a successful one, with his most recent collaboration with HBO — Chernobyl — earning him two Emmys: one as an executive producer on the series, and another for Best Directing for the hit series. Renck has also worked on a variety of other shows, including Vikings, Bloodline, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Halt and Catch Fire.

Dune: The Sisterhood will be set in the universe of Frank Herbert’s epic Dune novel series, and is told through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Armed with extraordinary abilities, this group of women weaves through the feudal politics of Dune, pursuing their own plans that ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, and the events of the film.

The series will see Diane Ademu-John act as showrunner. Ademu-John has most recently worked as an executive producer and writer on Netflix’s horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor. Before that, her credits include stints at Fox’s EmpireThe Originals, and The Vampire Diaries at The CW, as well as NBC’s Medium and Crossing Jordan.
