The Constantine reboot comes as J.J. Abrams continues to develop his upcoming Justice League Dark franchise. According to the report, a series focusing on Constantine is just a part of what HBO likely has planned for the Justice League Dark franchise, with other characters also expected to receive their own films or television series.

The report also mentions that U.K. author Guy Bolton is attached to write the script for a Constantine series and that it will explore more of the horror elements that are connected to the comic book character rather than the more religious tones that past iterations have explored. The report specifically mentions having Constantine involved in more “supernatural mysteries,” although it remains unclear just what the end result will be should a series come, and it’s unknown just how much of this report will end up being accurate.

Dìrísù is best known for his roles on the British action-crime drama Gangs of London, where he played Elliot Finch for nine episodes, as well as the British period drama The Halcyon, which saw Dìrísù take on the role of Sonny Sullivan in an eight-episode appearance. Dìrísù has also acted on the stage as well, having starred as Cassius Clay (Muhammed Ali) in an adaptation of One Night in Miami in 2016.

Prior to this reported new casting, the character of Constantine has been played by actor Matt Ryan, who has appeared in many of The CW’s Arrowverse shows as the iconic comic book detective and voiced the character in several DC Animated Universe films.
