Young Rock Season 2: Sean Astin Joins Dwayne Johnson Comedy Series

According to Variety, Stranger Things and The Goonies star Sean Astin has officially signed on for a recurring role in the upcoming second season of NBC’s Young Rock. Astin is set to portray the role of Dr. Julian Echo, Dwayne Johnson’s childhood nemesis who holds a grudge against him and tries to sabotage the superstar’s presidential campaign. Young Rock Season 2 returns tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

His casting comes after it was recently revealed that Arlyn Broche (Ballers) have been cast for the role of Dany Garcia, Johnson’s college sweetheart-turned-ex-wife, who’s now his business partner at Seven Bucks Productions. Both Broche and Astin will be recurring guest stars.

“The sitcom focuses on different chapters of Dwayne Johnson’s life,” reads the synopsis. “From growing up in a strong and resilient family, to being surrounded by the wild characters of his professional wrestling family, to playing football at the University of Miami, the show explores the crazy rollercoaster that has shaped Dwayne into the man he is today and the larger-than-life characters he’s met along the way.”

Young Rock is co-written by Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang, who are also set as executive producers along with Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz and Jennifer Carreras. The series is a co-production between Universal Television, Seven Bucks Productions and Khan’s Fierce Baby Productions.
