Under the Banner of Heaven: Andrew Garfield-Led Drama Sets Debut Date

FX has finally set the premiere date for Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black’s forthcoming crime drama Under the Banner of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones. The limited series is scheduled to make its debut on Thursday, April 28 with the first two episodes, exclusively on Hulu. After its premiere, a new episode will be available in each of the following five weeks.

Based on Jon Krakauer’s New York Times bestselling novel, Under the Banner of Heaven is created and executive produced by Dustin Lance Black (Milk), who also be serving as the showrunner. It will be led by Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield (tick, tick…BOOM!) and Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Fresh).

“The miniseries follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah,” reads the synopsis. “As Detective Jeb Pyre investigates events that transpired within the Lafferty family, he uncovers buried truths about the origins of the LDS religion and the violent consequences of unyielding faith. What Pyre, a devout Mormon, unearths leads him to question his own faith.”

Additional cast includes Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie, and Sandra Seacat.

Under the Banner of Heaven is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Samie Kim Falvey, and Anna Culp for Imagine Television; Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films; David Mackenzie, who will serve as director; and Gillian Berrie. It is produced by FX Productions.
