Jennifer Garner and James Marsden Join Starz’s Party Down Revival

Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner (Alias), Tyrel Jackson Williams (Thunder Force), and Zoë Chao (Love Life) have been tapped for series regular roles in Starz’s upcoming Party Down revival of the short-lived sitcom. In addition, Westworld alum James Marsden has also signed on as a recurring guest star.

Their official character descriptions are listed below:

  • Garner’s Evie – is a successful producer of studio franchise movies, who, in the wake of a breakup, is reconsidering her life choices. A fledgling relationship with Henry Pollard becomes a way for her to explore possible new directions.
  • Williams’ Sackson – is described as a handsome, confident, driven, wannabe influencer/internet personality. He’s knowledgeable and savvy about his specific internet niche, but a bit lost in every other aspect of life.
  • Chao’s Lucy – is a passionate, outspoken, free-thinking creative “food artist.” She dreams of being a celebrity chef, but she’s stuck cranking out hors d’oeuvres at Party Down without the resources to do anything more ambitious.
  • Marsden’s Jack Botty – is an actor who plays the lead in a popular superhero franchise. His looks match his charm, he enjoys his life, his fame and being the center of everyone’s attention.

The Party Down revival will once again star Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally have signed on to reprise their respective roles as Henry, Constance, Ron, Roman, Kyle, and Lydia. Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan is the only original cast member who won’t be able to return due to scheduling conflicts.

“It follows a Los Angeles catering team – a sextet of Hollywood wannabes stuck working for tips while hoping for their ‘big break,'” reads the synopsis. “Each episode of this half-hour comedy finds the hapless catering team working a new event – and inevitably getting tangled up with the colorful guests and their absurd lives.”

The Party Down revival will be executive produced by Scott, Paul Rudd, John Enbom, Rob Thomas, and Dan Etheridge, with Enbom set as the showrunner It is a production by Lionsgate Television.

Created by Paul Rudd, John Enbom, Rob Thomas, and Dan Etheridge, the original Starz series ran on-air for two seasons from 2009-2010. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, it was ultimately canceled due to low ratings and main cast shakeups where it lost its two main cast members Jane Lynch and Adam Scott to other TV shows such as Glee and Parks and Recreation, respectively.
