Michael B. Jordan’s Val-Zod Series Has Its Writers

Michael B. Jordan’s Black Superman project about Val-Zod for HBO Max has been reported on for quite some time, but not much about it has been concrete other than its existence. But now a new report has revealed that the series has found its writers.

A report from Deadline states that Darnell Metayer are Josh Peters are set to write the series. Both also wrote Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is slated for June 24, 2022 and just wrapped production. The two have also worked together on Amazon’s The Nola, which is being directed by Sam Raimi, among other projects.

Deadline says that the duo has “an unexpected take on the iconic Earth-2 character’s origin story,” but did not reveal more about what that might entail. It’s not even clear who will play Val-Zod, as some speculate if Jordan himself will don the suit.

This is a separate project from the film that Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams are working on together. Jordan said he was “flattered” that people want him to put on the suit in that rendition and told TheHollywoodReporter that he’d only be watching that one. It remains to be seen if Jordan’s mind will change with the HBO Max series about Val-Zod. BlackGirlNerds reported that Jordan was more into a Superman project that featured a Black Superman over something would racebend Kal-El.

The Val-Zod series is just one show that’s part of Jordan’s production company Outlier Society. The company has a deal with Amazon Studios and has signed multiple projects like Victories Greater Than Death, an adaptation of Charlie Jane Anders’ novel, and a Static Shock film, which is yet another DC Comics character.
