The handful of actors join a cast that already features the likes of Elizabeth Olsen, Jesse Plemons, Patrick Fugit, Lily Rabe, Keir Gilchrist, Elizabeth Marvel, Tom Pelphrey, and Krysten Ritter, making for a star-studded cast for the next series from Big Little Lies and The Undoing duo David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman.

The report mentions that James will play Dr. Fred Fason, Applegate will portray Carol Crowder, Astin will play Tom O’Connell, Cropper will play Robert Udashen, and McGill is set to portray Judge Tom Ryan.

Love and Death tells the true story of Texas woman Candy Montgomery, and her murder of Betty Gore in 1980. The series “will center around two church-going couples, enjoying small-town family life in Texas, until somebody picks up an axe,” according to the synopsis of the series. It is based on the book titled Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs and a collection of articles from Texas Monthly (“Love & Death in Silicon Prairie,” Part I & II).

The limited series will star Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) as Candy Montgomery, Jesse Plemons (Jungle Cruise) as Allan Gore, Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) as Betty Gore, Patrick Fugit (Outcast) as Pat Montgomery, Keir Gilchrist (Atypical) as Pastor Ron Adams, Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards) as Pastor Jackie Ponder, and Tom Pelphrey (Ozark) as Don Crowder.
