Bridgerton Star Phoebe Dynevor to Lead Amazon’s Exciting Times Series

Coming off from her breakout role as Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix’s hit romantic drama series, it looks like Phoebe Dynevor has finally found her next major TV project with Amazon Studios. According to Deadline, the rising English actress has finalized negotiations for the leading role in the studio’s upcoming series adaptation of Irish author Naoise Dolan’s 2020 debut novel (order here) titled Exciting Times. In addition to starring, Dynevor is also set to serve as an executive producer along with Dolan, who is also attached to co-write the project.

Described as “bracingly intelligent, hilarious, and raw,” Exciting Times revolves around an Irish millennial woman named Ava (Dynevor), who goes abroad to teach English to wealthy children. There, she’ll get involved in a love triangle between male banker Julian, and female lawyer Edith.

The official book synopsis reads:

“Ava, newly arrived in Hong Kong from Dublin, spends her days teaching English to rich children.

Julian is a banker. A banker who likes to spend money on Ava, to have sex and discuss fluctuating currencies with her. But when she asks whether he loves her, he cannot say more than ‘I like you a great deal.’

Enter Edith. A Hong Kong-born lawyer, striking and ambitious, Edith takes Ava to the theater and leaves her tulips in the hallway. Ava wants to be her—and wants her.

And then Julian writes to tell Ava he is coming back to Hong Kong… Should Ava return to the easy compatibility of her life with Julian or take a leap into the unknown with Edith?

Politically alert, heartbreakingly raw, and dryly funny, Exciting Times is thrillingly attuned to the great freedoms and greater uncertainties of modern love. In stylish, uncluttered prose, Naoise Dolan dissects the personal and financial transactions that make up a life—and announces herself as a singular new voice.”

The Exciting Times series will be directed by Cooper Raiff from a screenplay he will co-write with Dolan. It will be executive produced by Dynevor, Dolan, and Raiff along with Teddy Schwarzman, Ben Stillman, and Michael Heimler for Black Bear Pictures, who is financing and producing the series. Black Bear’s Clementine Quittner and Sleena Wilson have also been tapped to produce.

Dynevor will next be seen in the upcoming second season of Bridgerton, and in the upcoming drama film The Colour Room with Matthew Goode, which will make feature film debut. She also recently signed on Sony Pictures’ upcoming female-driven thriller I Heart Murder.
