Grace, Underwood & Pedrad join Disney+’s Just Beyond series
A month after landing Marc Webb to helm the early portion of the series, Disney+’s anthology adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Just Beyond has begun building its cast with the additions of Annabelle Comes Home‘s Mckenna Grace, Little Fires Everywhere‘s Lexi Underwood and Chad‘s Nasim Pedrad, according to Deadline.
Grace and Underwood are expected to lead each of their own stand-alone episodes, which will be both directed by Webb in a reunion with Grace after 2017’s Gifted. Grace is no stranger to the supernatural horror genre as she previously starred in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and is leading Jason Reitman’s long-awaited Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is set to hit theaters in November.
This project also marks Underwood’s second collaboration with Disney+ as she is also set to star in the streamer’s upcoming musical comedy Sneakerella with Chosen Jacobs. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old actress will next be seen in Showtime’s The First Lady series, portraying the role of Malia Obama.
Based on the best-selling BOOM! Studios graphic novel series from iconic children’s writer R.L. Stine (Goosebumps), Just Beyond is an anthology series that will tell astonishing and thought-provoking stories of a reality just beyond the one we know. Each episode introduces viewers to a new cast of characters who must go on a surprising journey of self-discovery in a supernatural world of witches, aliens, ghosts and parallel universes.
First published in 2019, the novels center on middle school kids coming across a variety of terrors, with the first seeing a group of kids learning about a terrifying creature and a gateway to a horrifying dimension lurking in their school while the second deals with two Martians crash-landing on Earth and hijacking two kid’s bodies and the third focusing on two siblings joining their uncle on a scientific expedition to a remote island, only to come across a deadly beast.
Just Beyond is created and written by Seth Grahame-Smith with Marc Webb set as its director. The eight-episode Disney+ series will be produce by Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg will produce through their KatzSmith Productions banner along with Stephen Christy, and Ross Richie. It is produced by 20TH Century Fox Television, a part of Disney Television Studios with R.L. Stine is attached as co-executive producer.
