Timothy Olyphant to Potentially Return as Justified’s Raylan Givens in New FX Series

Variety is reporting that Emmy nominee Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, JustifiedSanta Clarita Diet) could potentially be reprising his Justified character, Raylan Givens, in a new series FX is developing based on Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. The project will be executive produced by Justified creator Graham Yost. Justified writers and executive producers Michael Dinner and Dave Andron will co-write, executive producer, and serve as co-showrunners with Dinner also directing.

The outlet notes that since the series is in “very early stages,” it is unknown if Olyphant could star in the new adaptation or “appear in a smaller role” as no deal has yet been made.

City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit follows a killer named Clement Mansell, known as the “Oklahoma Wildman,” and dedicated Detroit homicide detective Raymond Cruz who vows to take him down.

Justified is based on Leonard’s character, Raylan Givens, who appeared in multiple novels and the short story Fire in the Hole. Givens is a Deputy U.S. Marshal who is reassigned to his native Kentucky after a controversial shooting.

Justified aired for six seasons on FX between 2010-2015, winning a Peabody Award in 2011. The series earned eight Emmy nominations, including one for Olyphant for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2011. In 2011, Margo Martindale won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Mags Bennett. Jeremy Davies also won an Emmy for his role as Dickie Bennett in 2012.

Chris Provenzano, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly of Timberman-Beverly, VJ Boyd, and Taylor Elmore will all return as executive producers. Peter Leonard of the Elmore Leonard Estate will executive produce in association with MGM. Walter Mosely will serve as a consulting producer, as will Ingrid Escajeda. Eisa Davis will produce. Sony Pictures Television will serve as the studio, as they did on Justified.
