AMC Networks and BBC America have announced that their critically-acclaimed drama series Killing Eve will officially be concluding its run with the upcoming fourth season. Production for the 8-episode final season is expected to begin this early summer in the U.K. and other locations across Europe, just in time for its target 2022 release. In addition, AMC Networks has also revealed that they’re continuing their partnership with Sid Gentle Films to further expand the Killing Eve universe with a number of potential spinoff ideas currently in development.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks. “We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show. We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe.”

The final season will be headed by new lead writer Laura Neal, who will served as the showrunner and executive producer for the fourth season, following the footsteps of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell and Suzanne Heathcote. Last year, the series had earned a few major Emmy nominations for the third season including Outstanding Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress for both Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh.

Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings, BBCA’s Killing Eve centers on two women; Eve (Sandra Oh) is a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade security services operative whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is an elegant, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. Killing Eve topples the typical spy-action thriller as these two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.

Season 3 continued to follow the lives of Villanelle (Comer), the assassin without a job, and Eve (Oh), Eve, the ex-MI6 operative hiding in plain sight. All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again. The journey back to each other will cost both of them friends, family, and allegiances, and perhaps a share of their souls.
Joining Oh, Comer, and Shaw in Season 3 are Harriet Walter (Succession), Danny Sapani (Harlots), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), Camille Cottin (Call My Agent), Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentlemen), Raj Bajaj (A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding), Turlough Convery (Ready Player One), Pedja Bjelac (Harry Potter) and Evgenia Dodina (One Week and a Day).

Killing Eve is produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd and executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Jeff Melvoin and Damon Thomas with Sandra Oh co-executive producing. Nige Watson serves as series producer.
Seasons 1 & 2 had already earned 12 Emmy nominations and 4 Golden Globe nominations with lead stars Sandra Oh winning her second Golden Globe Award and Jodie Comer winning her first Emmy Award, both for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
