John Wick Creator Is Developing Dungeons & Dragons For TV

Clearly, dragons are all the rage right now. Later this year, Paramount will finally roll tape on its long-gestating Dungeons & Dragons film reboot. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro and eOne are looking to expand the franchise’s reach to the small screen as well. A new D&D TV series is currently in the works with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad penning the script.

The report doesn’t mention whether the series will have anything to do with the film hitting theaters in 2022. But given Hollywood’s current obsession with launching new franchises across multiple platforms, it seems likely that the two projects will occupy the same universe. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are directing the reboot, which recently secured Wonder Woman 1984’s Chris Pine as its leading man. Unfortunately, his character’s identity remains unknown.

Whatever Kolstad’s plans are, he isn’t the only one crafting his own D&D pitch right now. THR also notes that eOne is on the lookout for other writers to “develop various projects” that take place in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. But whether this only encompasses new TV shows is still a mystery.

Apart from creating the John Wick series, Kolstad recently worked as a writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Last year, he co-created the Quibi series Die Hart, which starred Kevin Hart and John Travolta. Kolstad is also attached to write a few upcoming video game adaptations for TV, including a live-action Hitman series and a Splinter Cell anime series.
