Alex Rider Renewed for Season 2 Which Will Be Based on Horowitz’s Eagle Strike

IMDb TV has renewed the series adaptation Alex Rider for a second season which will be based on author Anthony Horowitz’s fourth novel in the franchise Eagle Strike, according to TVLine. Before the official renewal, Eleventh Hour Films had already been planning to begin production on Season 2 early next year.

In Eagle Strike, Alex is now a reluctant MI6 agent and is relaxing in the south of France when a ruthless attack on his hosts plunges him back into a world of violence and mystery.

“I couldn’t be happier with the response to Season 1 of Alex Rider and I’m thrilled that the adventure is going to continue with Eagle Strike, one of my favourite stories,” franchise author and series EP Anthony Horowitz said in a statement.

“The first incredible season of Alex Rider has resonated brilliantly with Prime members because of its mix of suspense, entertainment and drama,” added Brad Beale, VP of Worldwide Content Acquisition for Prime Video. “We can’t wait for our customers to see what is to come in the next action-packed season, available exclusively on Prime Video in the UK, Italy, Germany, Australia, Canada and Latin America.”

The series, created by Guy Burt (Bletchley Circle) centers on a British teenager named Alex Rider, who has been trained as a spy since childhood and is recruited by the Department of Special Operations, a subdivision of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), to infiltrate a controversial corrective academy for the wayward offspring of the ultra-rich. The White Queen and Strike Back: Vendetta star Otto Farrant leads the cast as Rider.

The first season of the series adaptation, based on the books by Anthony Horowitz, was fully financed by Sony Pictures TV’s International Production and Worldwide Distribution divisions without any network or streaming platform lined up, with Amazon signing on in May to air the project on Prime Video in the United Kingdom beginning June 4. The series made its U.S. debut on Friday, November 13 on IMDb TV.
