Following a big boost in ratings from previous seasons and just ahead of its 11th season finale, FXX has elected to greenlight a 12th season of its acclaimed animated spy comedy Archer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Archer is back in a big way this season, with viewership up as the Emmy Award-winning spy series returns to its roots and begins to plot a 12th season next year,” Nick Grad, president original programming at FX, said in a statement. “Our thanks to [executive producers] Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions for keeping Archer as fun as ever and true to form. Together with its unbelievable voice cast, Archer is set to give fans another great season.

The animated spy comedy is FXX’s Emmy Award-winning, animated comedy that, in its tenth season, centers around the spaceship M/V Seamus as Archer, Lana, and the rest of the crew explore deep space and try to outsmart space princes, intergalactic pirates and vicious bounty hunters.

The past few seasons of the series have seen the characters in different timelines including a 1947-set noir mystery entitled Dreamland, a 1938-set treasure-hunting adventure entitled Danger Island and the most-recent space-set 1999, as the titular spy was left in a coma after being shot in the stomach in the seventh season finale. The tenth season finale saw the hit spy finally awake from his coma, only to learn it’s been three years and the world has begun to move on from him, but that his antagonistic mother, Malory, remained by his side for every day during his coma.

In season 11 of the series, Sterling is ready to return to the spy world after a three-year coma. While many things changed during his absence, Archer is confident it will take just a little time for him to reset things back to the old ways. The problem: does the rest of the team want that? The others may not be ready for his return to throw a wrench in their well-oiled machine.
