Favreau also shared his reaction to The Mandalorian’s massive success and the universally loved character of Baby Yoda (aka The Child). The creator and EP feels the series was given an edge partly in thanks to the “lower expectations of television versus movies,” and how “there’s a much different set of standards that you’re judged by” saying they have benefitted from the smallness of The Mandalorian’s world in comparison to high-profile films.

Favreau also credits executive producer Dave Filoni’s creative input, who keeps Favreau on track as someone who was was “closely mentored by Lucas while helming seven seasons” of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

“I’ll come up with ideas and sometimes Dave will say, ‘You can’t do this in Star Wars.’ Then I’ll cite examples from the movies, or Clone Wars, to try to use as a justification. I’m like a lawyer talking to a judge; I am to him as he was to George. I won’t do anything without Dave’s approval. And to his credit, he understands that Stars Wars needs to be fun and ever-evolving,” said Favreau.

As far as the new season, Favreau said that it introduces “a larger story in the world,” with stories becoming “less isolated” as each episode “has its own flavor. Filoni added, “Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.”

Recent revelations of the second season of The Mandalorian have revealed that the returns of Temuera Morrison (Aquaman) as Boba Fett, Katee Sackhoff as The Clone Wars‘ Bo-Katan in live-action form and will reportedly feature the live-action debut of Jedi Padawan turned Rebel Alliance spymaster Ahsoka Tano with Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap) in talks to portray the fan-favorite character, though the star recently confirmed that the deal is not yet sealed on the part. After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universeThe Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
