Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers Series Adaptation Adds Luke Evans

Hulu’s upcoming limited series adaptation of Nine Perfect Strangers has expanded its star-studded cast with the addition of Luke Evans (The Alienist), who joins previously cast Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) and Melissa McCarthy (The Kitchen), according to Deadline.

The Fast and Furious alum is set to star as Lars, one of the titular “perfect” strangers and also joins recently cast Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), leaving five slots open for more big-name stars to join the cast of the streaming service’s next tentpole project.

Kidman and producer Bruna Papandrea will adapt Liane Moriarty’s best-selling book Nine Perfect Strangers via their respective production companies, Blossom Films and Made Up Stories. David E. Kelley and Edge of Tomorrow writer John Henry Butterworth will serve as showrunners as well as co-write the series.

Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Watching over them is the resort’s director Masha (Kidman), a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies, but these nine strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.

Executive producers also include Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver for Made Up Stories, Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, Moriarty, Kelley and Butterworth. Nine Perfect Strangers is expected to debut on Hulu in 2021. The series will join the company’s growing slate of upcoming scripted original series, including Wu-Tang: An American SagaLooking For AlaskaReprisal and The Great.

The series is the latest project from Blossom Films, Made Up Stories and Endeavor Content.  Blossom Films executive-producing season one of HBO’s Big Little Lies, which garnered eight Emmy nominations and five wins, including Best Actress for Kidman and Best Miniseries or Television Film. Made Up Stories was founded by Papandrea, the award-winning producer of the HBO series Big Little Lies and feature films Wild, Gone Girl, Warm Bodies and Milk. Endeavor Content’s recent TV slate includes Damien Chazelle’s musical drama The Eddy, hit series Killing Eve, and Apple’s See, which stars Jason Momoa.
