Staged: David Tennant & Michael Sheen to reunite in BBC’s lockdown comedy
After starring together in last year’s Amazon Prime limited series Good Omens, David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex) have officially set their next teamed-up project with BBC’s upcoming lockdown comedy titled Staged. The series will consist of six 15-minute episodes which will premiere sometime in June on BBC One. In addition, the announcement also came with the release of the first teaser which you can check out below, featuring Tennant and Sheen’s characters as they discussed about homeschooling.
The reunited pair will star as two cast members of a West End theatre production which got suspended due to the ongoing global pandemic. Staged will follow the cast as they try to keep rehearsals on track during lockdown, with their efforts often bordering on the absurd and the humorous.
“It’s so important that the BBC provides moments of humour and light relief and this mischievous idea shows what great sports Michael and David are.” BBC director of content Charlotte Moore said in statement (via Deadline).
The series will also feature Lucy Eaton along with Tennant and Sheen’s real-life partners, actress Georgia Tennant (Merlin) and Swedish actress Anna Lundberg. Surprise guest-stars are also expected to appear in the comedy series.
Staged is written and directed by Simon Evans, who also co-created the series with Phin Glynn. It is produced by Glynn, Victor Glynn and Georgia Tennant with David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Infinity Hill’s Axel Kuschevatzky and Cindy Teperman, and GCB’s Geoff Iles serving as executive producers.
