Like the original series, the new iteration of Gossip Girl, written by Joshua Safran, is based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar. Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.

The original Gossip Girl’s Kristen Bell will narrate the new series, which hails from Joshua Safran, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. TV, and CBS Television Studios.

The 10-episode series will be executive produced by Safran with Fake Empire’s Schwartz and Savage alongside Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment. Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will co-executive produce with Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment producing in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television.

The original Gossip Girl series ran on-air for six seasons from 2007-2012 on The CW. The series was based on author Cecily von Ziegesar’s book series of the same name. It starred Kristen Bell as the narrator, Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen, Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf, Penn Badgley as Dan Humphrey, Chase Crawford as Nate Archibald, Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass and Taylor Momsen as Jenny Humphrey. Although the series wasn’t known for getting high ratings, it still gained a lot of recognition among its young viewers at the time and had garnered a devoted fanbase.
