Apple Renews Octavia Spencer Drama Truth Be Told

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has decided to renew the Octavia Spencer series Truth Be Told, which is interesting considering the project was originally planned as a limited series. Spencer will return in the starring role and will continue to executive produce.

The second season will continue to follow Spencer’s podcaster/investigator character, as she uncovers a new case. This obviously departs from the original adaptation of the Kathleen Barber novel, Are You Sleeping, which focused on a woman who reopens a murder case after realizing she may have helped put an innocent man in jail.

“I’m thrilled to be making another season of Truth Be Told with Apple, our incredibly creative group of producers and the infinitely talented Octavia Spencer,” said executive producer Reese Witherspoon. “I can’t wait to see how Poppy Parnell’s next chapter unfolds.”

The first season was written and executive produced by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife), who also serves as showrunner. Along with Tramble, Truth Be Told will be executive produced by Octavia Spencer’s Orit Entertainment, Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter’s Hello Sunshine, and Chernin Entertainment which is headed up by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo.

Truth Be Told can be viewed exclusively on Apple TV+.
