All good things must come to an end. So it goes with Ray Donovan, which Showtime has ultimately decided to cancel after seven seasons. The news came courtesy of a statement made by the network (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” reads Showtime’s statement. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”

This isn’t exactly shocking news. Showtime Co-President of Entertainment, Gary Levine, hinted that the show was nearing the end of its run after the close of its seventh and now final season.
“What an amazing journey it’s been,” series star Live Schreiber posted on his Instagram. “I’ve been reading your comments, and the outpouring of love and support for our cast and crew has been truly overwhelming. I know the big question on everyone’s mind is whether there will be a season 8. Truth is it’s in the networks hands. So if you want more, reach out to [the studio] and let them know how you feel. Either way it’s been an amazing ride and we have all of you to thank for it.”
The series premiered on June 30, 2013 and focused on the titular Ray Donovan, an Irish-American who represents the rich and powerful via the lw firm Goldman & Drexler. Donovan handled all the seedy work to ensure the best outcome for his clients, whilst also dealing with his father (played by Jon Voight) and evading the FBI.

Season seven premiered on Nov. 17.
A Showtime production, Ray Donovan also stars Eddie Marsan (The World’s End), Dash Mihok (Before I Wake), Katherine Moennig (Three Rivers), Pooch Hall (The Game), Kerris Dorsey (Moneyball), Devon Bagby (Broken Ghost), and Graham Rogers (Quantico), with Oscar-winner and multiple Emmy-nominated actress Susan Sarandon.
Ray Donovan is executive produced by David Hollander, Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and Lou Fusaro, and was created by Ann Biderman.
