Emmy winner David E. Kelley will write and executive produce The Lincoln Lawyer. The drama series is based on the bestselling novel by Michael Connelly.

The series comes with a big series production commitment that includes a sizable penalty fee if CBS does not pick up The Lincoln Lawyer to series. The series, which will serve as Kelley’s return to broadcast since CBS’ The Crazy Ones in 2013, is currently in development.

The Lincoln Lawyer revolves around Mickey Haller, an iconoclastic idealist who runs his law practice out of the back of his Lincoln town car as he takes on cases big and small across L.A. The book was originally adapted into a movie in 2011, starring Matthew McConaughey as Mickey.

Connelly will serve as executive producer alongside Ross Fineman (Goliath) for the A+E Studios and CBS TV Studios project. The Lincoln Lawyer will be the second series inspired by Connelly’s bestselling novels, following Amazon’s Bosch starring Titus Welliver as detective Harry Bosch.

Kelley also currently serves as executive producer for HBO’s Big Little Lies, Mr. Mercedes for Audience Network, Amazon’s Goliath, and Nicole Kidman’s upcoming limited series The Undoing for HBO.
