The Staircase: Harrison Ford to Star in Series Adaptation

Variety is reporting that Oscar nominee Harrison Ford (Witness, Star Wars franchise, Indiana Jones franchise) will star in The Staircase for Annapurna Television, a scripted series adaptation of the docuseries that centered on the trial of American novelist Michael Peterson.

Peterson was accused of murdering his wife in 2001 who Peterson claimed died after falling down the stairs at their home. The police suspected Peterson bludgeoned his wife to death and then tried to make it look like an accident.

The docuseries originally premiered in 2014 and was later released as a 13-episode series in 2018 on Netflix with updated information from creator Jean-Xavier de Lestrade.

Ford will also executive produce the series adaptation. Antonio Campos (The Sinner, The Punisher, The Devil All the Time) is attached to write and will also serve as an executive producer. Annapurna Television is producing and is currently shopping the project to streaming services and networks.

While Ford has made appearances on television before in series like The Virginian, The F.B.I. and Gunsmoke, this would serve as his first regular television role. His recent credits include The Secret Life of Pets 2, Blade Runner 2049, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Age of Adaline, and The Expendables 3. His upcoming projects include The Call of the Wild feature adaptation based on Jack London’s 1903 novel, and an untitled Indiana Jones movie dated for 2021.
