Tye Sheridan to Star in Quibi’s New Survival Thriller Series Wireless

According to Deadline, Quibi has given a series order to executive producer Steven Soderbergh’s forthcoming survival thriller series titled Wireless with Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan attached to lead the series. This project will mark Sheridan’s first major TV role since appearing as guest star in 2014 on FOX’s sitcom Last Man Standing which was his TV debut.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this project. It’s a completely new way of storytelling, a format that is the first of its kind, and I truly believe that it will establish an important new language and pave the way for many more like it in the future.” Sheridan said in a statement.

Sheridan is best known for playing the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. He will next seen in Neil Burger’s sci-fi film Voyagers starring alongside Colin Farrell and Lily-Rose Depp.

Wireless will follow the story of a self-obsessed college student (Sheridan) who got stranded in the Colorado mountains and he only hope for survival is the tool he has spent his whole life learning to use: his smartphone. The series will be set inside the car he crashed and the quickly dying phone that now is his lifeline.

“Wireless explores the personal relationship we all have with our devices and brings life-and-death stakes to the choices we make in the digital world,” Wechter said. “We’ve been designing stories specifically to be viewed on phones with our mobile filmmaking collective Pickpocket, and I couldn’t be more excited to have partners as dedicated to experimenting in the form as we are in Quibi, and the rest of our incredible collaborators on this project.”

The series is created by newcomers Zach Wechter and Jack Seidman, who will also serve as executive producers with Wechter also set to direct. Michael Sugar, Cathy Konrad and Danny Sherman will executive produce along with Propagate’s Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Greg Lipstone. Wireless is a co-production by Pickpocket, Treeline Film and Propagate with Christian Heur and Isabel San Vargas to produce.

Quibi, which is short for “Quick Bites” is scheduled to have its launch on April 6, 2020, with already more than a billion dollars raised from its investors. It has a number of projects currently in development. Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Catherine Hardwick, Steven Spielberg, Paul Feig, Anna Kendrick, Laurence Fishburne, and Don Cheadle are eight of the many producers and talents who are working hard on the production of the said projects

The streaming service, founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, is set to feature series that run two to four hours in length and are broken down into parts that are no longer than 10 minutes in length.
