In the original Punky Brewster series, Frye starred as a young girl growing up with foster father Henry Warnimon. In the sequel, Punky is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.

Punky Brewster earned two Emmy nominations during its run from 1984 to 1988. The series was followed up by an animated series, It’s Punky Brewster, with Frye voicing her popular character and earning the show a Daytime Emmy nomination.

After Punky Brewster said farewell in the late ’80s, Johnson starred in the 90s sitcom Family Matters, and also appeared in The Parkers and Days of Our Lives.
