The Testaments Series: The Handmaid’s Tale Sequel In The Works At Hulu

Deadline reports that Hulu and MGM Television are in the process of developing a new The Handmaid’s Tale spinoff sequel, based on author Margaret Atwood’s upcoming novel titled The Testaments which will serve as a follow-up to her best-selling classic dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale. Hulu and MGM are consulting with showrunner Bruce Miller on how could they incorporate the upcoming novel as an extension to the award-winning series.

“Margaret Atwood is a literary icon who continues to delight and challenge readers through her provocative and compelling prose,” MGM’s President of Television Production, Steve Stark said. “She has been an incredible creative partner and resource to MGM throughout the production of Handmaid’s and we look forward to working with her on the story’s exciting next chapter.”

The Testaments novel comes after 34 years since the first novel was published in 1985. It is scheduled to launch next week on September 10 and you can pre-order the book now by clicking here.

The sequel’s official synopsis reads as follows: “When the van door slammed on Offred’s future at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale, readers had no way of telling what lay ahead for her — freedom, prison or death. With The Testaments, the wait is over. Margaret Atwood’s sequel picks up the story more than 15 years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead.”
