Hannah Fidell’s A Teacher Gets a Series Order at FX

According to Vital Thrills, FX has officially given a 10-episode series order for writer-director Hannah Fidell’s upcoming limited series adaptation of A Teacher. Based on Fidell’s 2013 drama film of the same name, the miniseries will star Kate Mara (House Of Cards) as Claire and Nick Robinson (Love Simon) as Eric. Mara will also serve as an executive producer.

“Hannah Fidell is an exceptional filmmaker we have long admired for her intuitive ability to bring complex stories to life with depth and grace,” FX Entertainment’s President of Programming Gina Balian said. “We are thrilled to partner with Hannah, Kate Mara, Michael Costigan, Jason Bateman and Danny Brocklehurst to adapt A Teacher into a limited series for FX, with Kate leading an extraordinary cast along with Nick Robinson.”

The film followed the story of a female high school teacher who is has an affair with one of her male students. A Teacher is a timely story described as an exploration of consent, abuse of power, victimhood and the inevitable consequences that happen throughout an entire community after the forbidden relationship was exposed.

A Teacher was written and produced by the film’s director Fidell which had its premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Fidell will also direct and pen the series adaptation. Mara will step into the role that was portrayed by Lindsay Burdge in the film.

Back in 2014, the TV adaptation was supposed to be developed by HBO but Fidell ultimately decided to transfer the project to FX Productions. Fidell is also set to executive produce the limited series along with Mara, Danny Brocklehurst (SafeOrdinary Lies), Michael Costigan (Brokeback Mountain) and Jason Bateman of Aggregate Films (OzarkOutsider).
