Netflix is adding even more anime to its fast-increasing library. The new series, which riffs on tales from Norse mythology, comes from the creative team of Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva, which the streaming giant just announced this morning. Oliva will serve as the untitled series’ writer and showrunner, as well as an executive producer alongside Snyder.
“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, Netflix’s Head of Anime.

Snyder, of course, has helmed several comic book adaptations, from 300 to Watchmen all the way up into 2017’s Justice League, which he left partway through production. He’s currently working on Army of the Dead, a zombie heist movie, for the streaming service.
Similarly, Oliva has worked on a number of films as a storyboard artist, including a dozen features with Snyder. His credits include Spider-Man: Homecoming, Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok as well as Justice League, just to name a few. He’s also working on another Netflix original anime, Trese, which is set in Manila.
