Paulson has starred in the first eight seasons of the series, earning five Emmy nominations over the years for her various characters. While the actress may not appear in a major role in the next season, the outlet notes there is still a possibility she could make a cameo appearance. It was previously announced that American Horror Story star Evan Peters will also not be in American Horror Story: 1984, who has appeared in every previous season as well.

Murphy has confirmed that Emma Roberts will return and star alongside Olympic gold medalist Gus Kenworthy. Cult and Apocalypse vet Billy Eichner (The Lion King) also revealed in May that we would not return for the upcoming ninth season.
