Paul Feig developing projects for Quibi
Following the recent news of Steven Spielberg’s involvement with the Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s Quibi, another talented director has also signed on to develop and produce new shortform projects for the upcoming streaming service. During an appearance at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada, Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has revealed that he is currently working on several projects for Quibi.
“I’ve talked to Jeffrey and we have a couple projects we’re in stages of development on,” Feig said (via The Hollywood Reporter) “It’s exciting that shortform is getting another crack. It was kind of dead for a long time, because there was no market for it. Now, because there’s so much stuff out there, this shortform content you watch on your phone that you watch for 10 minutes, that’s really important now,”
Quibi, which is short for “Quick Bites” is scheduled to have its launch in April 2020 with already more than a billion dollars raised from its investors. It has a number of projects currently in development. Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Catherine Hardwick, Anna Kendrick, and Laurence Fishburne are five of the many producers and talents who are working hard on the production of the said projects.
Feig is best known for directing comedies like award-winning Bridesmaids; The Heat starring Oscar winner Sandra Bullock; and the 2016 Ghostbusters. His next film is the upcoming romantic comedy Last Christmas which will be led by Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding.
