Michael Rooker joins Amazon’s Dark Tower series adaptation
Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Brightburn, Guardians of the Galaxy) has joined Amazon’s Dark Tower series, based on the novels by Stephen King. The actor announced his involvement on his official site, with Birth.Movies.Death first noticing the reveal.
No details have yet been released on who Rooker will play in the show should the series get picked up for its planned 13 episodes, including the pilot.
Rooker will join Game of Thrones’ Jerome Flynn in the series, as well as the previously announced Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings) and Sam Strike (Nightflyers) in the series. Flynn will play a cowboy in Amazon’s Dark Tower, while Pääkkönen will portray The Man in Black, also known as Randall Flagg and Marten Broadcloak, with Strike playing Roland Deschain, aka The Gunslinger.
The series was originally planned as a tie-in to the 2017 The Dark Tower film that stared Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Amazon shifted gears and is now planning for the series to be a more faithful adaptation of the book series.
The Dark Tower series is produced by Media Rights Capital (MRC). Glen Mazzara will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
The adaptation joins Amazon’s lineup of high-profile projects currently in development, including the Lord of the Rings prequel series that has already received a two-season commitment. The show is being developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
