The Sinner Renewed for Season 3 with Matt Bomer to Star

USA Network has renewed The Sinner for a third season, Variety has confirmed, with Golden Globe winner Matt Bomer (The Normal Heart, Doom Patrol) set to star opposite lead Bill Pullman (Independence Day, The Equalizer 2).

The Sinner Season 3 will follow Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) as he begins a routine investigation of a tragic car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York. Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career.

Bomer will play Jamie, an upstanding Dorchester resident and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of an accident. Bomer’s last USA Network series White Collar marked one of his breakout roles as Neal Caffrey. His credits also include The Normal Heart, Magic Mike, Magic Mike XXL, American Horror Story, The Nice Guys, The Magnificent Seven, and Will & Grace. He is currently starring on DC Universe’s Doom Patrol.

The first season of The Sinner, which was set around a woman in a small town who murders a man and goes to jail while the search to find why she did it continues, was a relatively large hit for the network, which aired the series in the summer and saw increasingly better ratings and very positive reviews from critics, including two Golden Globe nominations for Best Miniseries and Best Actress for Jessica Biel in the lead role. Though the storyline was seemingly wrapped up in the first season, USA chose to give the series a second outing.

The second season features the return of Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he goes back to his small hometown to investigate the murder of a couple by their 11-year-old son. As he tries to figure out why the boy would commit such a crime, it becomes clear that the town is hiding some very dark secrets that people will do anything in their power to protect. While attempting to bring these secrets to light, he also meets Vera (Carrie Coon), who might hold the key to understanding everything that’s going on.
