Elizabeth Anweis Joins The CW’s Batwoman as Kate Kane’s Stepmother

Following the recent addition of Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane in Batwoman, Deadline reports that Elizabeth Anweis has officially been cast in the role of Kate Kane’s step-mother Catherine Hamilton-Kane in The CW series. Catherine is a billionaire defense contractor who’s also known as one of Gotham’s most powerful residents. She will be an enemy to Batwoman because she thinks that the heroine is bad for her business.

Anweis was a runway model for luxury brands such as Cartier and Gucci. Her TV credits include Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, Twin Peaks, The Affair, 9-1-1, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

The series stars Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman, Rachel Skarsten as Red Alice, Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) as Luke Fox and Nicole Kang (You) as Mary Hamilton. The pilot will be directed by Marcos Siega instead of executive producer David Nutter, who gave up his directorial duties due to personal reasons.

Batwoman marks the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series. It centers on Kate Kane (Rose) who soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

The network ordered a development for the series last summer with Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) penning the pilot, while she, Sarah Schecter (Riverdale), Geoff Johns (Aquaman) and Greg Berlanti (The Flash) will executive produce the project. David Nutter will also executive produce the pilot from Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
