Emily Alyn Lind to star in Syfy’s comedy pilot (Future) Cult Classic

According to Deadline, Code Black star Emily Alyn Lind has signed on for the lead role in SYFY‘s upcoming pilot titled (Future) Cult Classic. Lind is set to portray the role of Bree, who is described as a classic 90s horror movie Final Girl trapped in the wrong decade. Her official character description reads: “Growing up in a future dominated by technology and terrible electronic music, Bree’s love of pop culture from decades past marks her as an outsider– a status she wears as a badge of honor.”

Set 18 years in the future, (Future) Cult Classic is a dark comedy that will follow the story of a group of teens whose community is rocked by a 1990s slasher-movie obsessed serial killer. Our heroes quickly realize they’re being targeted and decide to take matters into their own hands and track down the killer—before time runs out. The series is set to combine the genres of slasher films, high school drama and speculative satire.

In addition to Lind, Jacob McCarthy (AP Bio), Cayden Boyd (Heathers), da’Vinchi/Abraham Juste (Grown-ish) and Zoe Renee (The Quad) have also been cast as series regulars. McCarthy will be playing the character of Bree’s long-time best friend named Andy, who has a crush on Bree. He has an enormous love of old horror movies, and, even more than Bree, tremendous disdain for the generation he grew up in.

Boyd will be Bree’s boyfriend Henry, who has a promising future ahead of him. He lost his popularity when he started dating Bree and hanging out with her friends. Meanwhile Da’Vinchi and Renee are set to portray the roles of Peyton and Mila, respectively. Peyton is a handsome guy and star football player, who’s not happy and confuse with his current place in life.

Mila is another key member of our Scooby Gang, has always seemed a little disaffected from reality– the result of growing up in such an impersonal world. She always has a cheery optimism about her– a trait that starts to feel creepy when people in her town start dying.

Written by Shay Hatten, the pilot is executive produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video and Universal Content Productions along with Tim Kirkby (Veep), who will also serve as the pilot’s director.

Lind’s notable TV credits include Criminal Minds, ABC’s Revenge as young Amanda Clarke, and CBS’s medical drama Code Black. She recently starred in sci-fi thriller Replicas starring alongside Keanu Reeves. Lind will next be seen in director Mike Flanagan’s upcoming The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep as Snakebite Andi.
