Bravo Developing Queer as Folk Reboot

Bravo is currently developing a reboot of the drama romance series Queer as Folk, Variety has confirmed. The creator of the original UK series, Russell T. Davies (A Very English Scandal), will serve as executive producer on the new version of the story.

The new Queer as Folk will feature entirely new characters in a new setting from the original installments. It is described as a modern take on the original British series that centers on a group of club-going friends who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.

The original Queer as Folk series ran for 10 episodes in the UK between 1999 and 2000. The show starred Aidan Gillen, Charlie Hunnam, and Craig Kelly as three gay men living in Manchester.

The series was remade in 2000, airing on Canada’s Showcase and America’s Showtime networks. This Queer as Folk was set in Pittsburgh and starred Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Hal Sparks, Peter Paige, and Scott Lowell, running for five seasons.

Stephen Dunn will write and executive produce for the series, alongside original series executive producer Nicola Shindler of Red Productions. Lee Eisenberg will executive produce for Quantity Entertainment, with Emily Brecht of Quantity co-executive producing. Digital Rights Group will also produce the Universal Cable Productions project.
