Netflix Teases The Punisher Season 2 in January 2019

Buried within Netflix’s January 2019 announcements was a teaser for the second season of The Punisher. In those brief seconds of footage, Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle prepares to reignite his war on crime. Curiously, the teaser did not include a launch date for the new season. And with only a few weeks left in December, there isn’t much time left to properly promote the show’s return.

But perhaps that was an intentional move. With three out of five Marvel series canceled by Netflix, the future doesn’t look bright for The Punisher or Jessica Jones. Although both shows have new seasons set to debut in 2019, that probably won’t be enough to keep them alive on Netflix. Daredevil was reportedly one of Netflix’s most popular shows, and even that didn’t save it. Presumably, The Punisher will meet a similar fate a few weeks after season 2 drops. However, we’d love to be wrong about that! Bernthal’s Punisher has proven to be a fan favorite, and this show deserves to continue.

In the first season of The Punisher, Castle was seemingly free to resume his life without fear of prosecution. We don’t know what will cause Castle to reclaim his Punisher persona, but Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) will be back, presumably as Jigsaw. Amber Rose Revah’s Dinah Madani and Jason R. Moore’s Curtis Hoyle are the only other season 1 cast members officially returning.

Annette O’Toole and Corbin Bernsen are also joining the show as Eliza and Anderson Schultz, respectively. Giorgia Whigham will portray Amy Bendix, with Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont, and Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim.
