Game of Thrones Season 8 Opening Details Revealed!

News has been sparse on the Game of Thrones front, with the exception of some spinoffs/prequels/sequels in development. However, this week the folks over at Entertainment Weekly ran a huge story detailing new bits of information on Season 8 of George R.R. Martin’s masterful series, and revealed a tiny snippet of information, specifically how the first episode of season 8 begins.

Potential spoilers ahead!

“Season 8 opens at Winterfell with an episode that contains plenty of callbacks to the show’s pilot. Instead of King Robert’s procession arriving, it’s Daenerys and her army. What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters — some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories — as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead.”

Further details in the report include that one episode will be built entirely around the conflict with the Army of the Dead which is described as “the most sustained action sequence ever made for television or film.” The episode will cut between a variety of characters caught in the battle and how they strive to survive, or don’t. “Battle of the Bastards” director Miguel Sapochnik is set to helm that episode.

The final season of Game of Thrones will premiere sometime in 2019. Though it likely won’t be our last trip to Westeros, as HBO has greenlit a pilot set 1,000 years before the events of the wildly popular sword and sorcery epic.
