Thomas Kretschmann to Play Van Helsing in NBC’s Dracula Series

Thomas Kretschmann, who plays Dracula in Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D, is going to star as Abraham Van Helsing in NBC’s upcoming Dracula series.

The show is set in the late-1800s and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Van Helsing “is not the classic hero featured in so many retellings. Here, he’s a brilliant professor with a cool exterior who is obsessed with revenge and makes him more of a threat to the public than to Dracula.”

Oliver Jackson-Cohen will plays a journalist in the series, premiering this fall.

The two join Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jessica De Gouw. Meyers plays Dracula, who arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
