How House of the Dragon Season 3 Makes HBO’s GOT Show Even Deadlier

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres next month on HBO and HBO Max. The footage and promotional materials tease a darker and deadlier season for the Game of Thrones prequel.

In the latest poster released by the show’s official account, the Greens and Blacks are jockeying for position as they battle for the Iron Throne. The tagline reads, “Win or Die,” as this season of House of the Dragon is setting up to be the deadliest run of episodes so far.

How will House of the Dragon Season 3 be even deadlier this year?

Death is not uncommon on House of the Dragon, or any Game of Thrones show for that matter. Several notable characters in House of the Dragon have already died in the first two seasons. Aemond Targaryen and his dragon, Vhagar, killed Prince Lucerys Velaryon in the Season 1 finale, and Rhaenys Targaryen died during the Battle of Rook’s Rest.

The Season 3 teaser trailer previews significant bloodshed in the episodes ahead. The Taragrayen Civil War will only intensify this season in the Battle of the Gullet, one of the most devastating naval battles in Westeros’ history. The battle is expected in the beginning episodes of Season 3.

Showrunner Ryan Condal teased how Season 3 will be the biggest season to date.

“Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways,” Condal said. “There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That’s really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it’s the thing the show does really well.”

The poster also teases the impending showdown between Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his nephew, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell). It’s one of the most legendary matchups in the book, so hopefully the show can deliver on the hype.

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres on Sunday, June 21, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max.
