The Crown Season 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap

The Crown Season 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap

Netflix’s The Crown is back with a highly anticipated season featuring portrayals of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. In The Crown Season 4 Episode 1, Queen Elizabeth met the newly chosen Prime Minister, while Lord Mountbatten counseled Charles on his affairs with women, and in The Crown Season 4 Episode 2, the customs of Balmoral Castle test the Thatchers and Diana Spencer.

The Mountbatten Bombing

The struggles between England and Ireland are introduced in this new season right away, but the Royal Family appeared more concerned with Charles’ love life. He had been seeing a long list of women, and his current girlfriend was Sarah Spencer. While visiting her, Charles met her younger sister dressed in a costume for a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Lord Mountbatten called Charles while he was salmon fishing in Iceland. He encouraged him to abandon his ongoing affair with Camilla as his duty to find a wife was looming. They argued, and Charles went back to fishing, as Mountbatten went lobster trapping with his grandson. The IRA had bombed Mountbatten’s boat, killing him, and took responsibility for the attack. Lord Mountbatten had selected Charles to do the reading at his funeral, and Philip confessed to Charles that he had at times resented him for replacing him in Mountbatten’s eyes.

Guess the Cabinet

The Crown Season 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap

Margaret Thatcher visited Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace for the first time as Prime Minister. Elizabeth had successfully guessed most of the Cabinet the Prime Minister would appoint. After Mountbatten’s death, Mrs. Thatcher called Elizabeth and vowed to wage war on the IRA.

Balmoral Castle

The Crown Season 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap

The Royal Family were spending the summer holiday at Balmoral Castle. The Thatchers visited, aware that they were being tested on their decorum while there. They had dressed for dinner during tea time, and the Prime Minister wore bright blue while out stalking with Elizabeth. The Thatchers left early.

The Cabinet was blocking Thatcher’s proposed actions. She ended up dismissing most of the old guard and replaced them with younger and more like-minded members.

The Stag

The Crown Season 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2 Recap

Everyone at Balmoral was excited about the wounded fourteen-point stag that wandered onto the grounds. Philip and Anne argued over who would bring the prized stag home. Meanwhile, Charles had invited Diana to Balmoral. Philip asked her to join him stalking in the early morning. After four hours of walking, Diana spotted the stag and insisted the wind came from the left. Philip successfully killed the stag and credited Diana in front of the rest of the family.

The family approved of Diana and insisted that Charles marry her. Charles called Camilla, who was supportive of the idea. The press began following Diana on her walk home.
