Watchmen Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

In the previous episode of HBO’s Watchmen, Angela asked Wade to have his ex look into the pills that Will left behind in her car. In Watchmen Season 1 Episode 5, we learned about Wade’s past, and the leader of the Seventh Kavalry told him the truth.

Psychic Blast

In 1985, young Wade arrived in Hoboken as part of a missionary effort to evangelize about the Doomsday Clock. After a girl tricked him out of his clothes, the blast from Ozymandias’ squid in New York hit the boardwalk in Hoboken. Most people outside died and those who survived suffered last effects from the psychic blast.

In the present, Wade depended on Extra Dimensional Security’s products. When his alarm system malfunctioned, he happily paid double to have his replacement sent overnight. His Looking Glass mask was made out of Reflectatine, and he lined the inside of his baseball cap with it.

The Leader of the Seventh Kavalry

Watchmen Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Wade ran support group meetings for those affected by the squid and psychic blast. He met Renee there, and they had some drinks. Wade told her about detecting truth in focus groups – his cover – and she told him that she was a radiologist. When Renee’s friend picked her up, a head of lettuce fell out of the back. Wade tracked the truck and found the Seventh Kavalry headquarters. Though Blake had ordered a search for the church featured in the Seventh Kavalry videos, Wade discovered it was a set.

Senator Keane led the Seventh Kavalry. He and Judd had led and manipulated their own groups. Keane showed Wade a video from his Appropriations Committee appointment. The squid attack was a hoax that Adrian Veidt had developed in cooperation with President Redford. When Wade arrived home, he discarded the new EDS system. A truck of Seventh Kavalrymen pulled up with weapons out.

Watchmen Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Wade’s ex-wife, Cynthia, worked at pet-cloning lab. She identified the pills as Nostalgia. They contained Will’s memories. Blake had bugged Wade’s desk. When Angela told Wade that Will had confessed to killing Judd and she cleaned everything up, Blake arrested her. Angela swallowed the nostalgia pills before they could stop her.

Escape to the Moon

Finally, Veidt’s spacesuit worked. He found himself on what appeared to be the surface of the moon. Veidt gathered the frozen Mr. Phillips and Ms. Crawford bodies. The Game Warden caught him. Veidt was in a load of trouble.
