Krypton Season 2 Episode 8 Recap

Krypton Season 2 Episode 8 begins with frustration for Zod. His technician is having a hard time implanting a control mechanism into Doomsday. The creature is resistant to every hallucinogen on Krypton. Zod suggests a non-Kryptonian solution. Zod reveals a specimen of Black Mercy. The plant produces a “perfect world” hallucination in its victim via a toxin. The sample is currently keeping Lyta in a dream state. It was a reconditioned clone of Lyta that Jax killed on Wegthor. The tech warns that the Black Mercy is reacting negatively to the toxin extraction process and that Lyta’s hallucination is in danger of shattering.

Black Mercy

Krypton Season 2 Episode 8 Recap

Lyta’s illusion sees her free of the Sagitari and living with Seg in a luxury apartment away from Kandor. Jayna has given her blessing for Seg and Lyta’s binding, even working to set them up with this apartment and helping to have Seg’s rank reinstated. The two are to be bound together in a ceremony with their friends and family. At the ceremony, the Oracle of Rao shows them the product of their binding, a son named Dru-Zod. Zod will prgress through the military guild, eventually conquering world that Krypton will colonize and eradicating billions of species. Lyta is horrified, but the rest of the party goers are unconcerned. Lyta is then approached in turn by Dev, Nyssa, Jayna, and Seg, all who berate Lyta for injuring and betraying them.

Lyta’s memories start to creep into the illusion. She remembers standing up to Zod and telling him that there has to be a better way of insuring Krypton’s future than through colonization of alien worlds. Zod attacks Lyta and eventually overpowers her, choking her as Seg’s cries ring out from the Phantom Zone. With her memories shattering the illusion, Lyta summons the will to leave the fantasy behind and return to the real world, even if it means never seeing her mother nor Seg again. Lyta pulls the Black Mercy out of and off of her body and staggers away.

Resistance

Krypton Season 2 Episode 8 Recap

Jayna and Dev join Seg and Nyssa at the Fortress, where the latter fill the former in on Brainiac’s abduction of Jor-El. Dev tells them that Zod’s fleet is ready for launch and will be headed to Wegthor to destroy the resistance. With the communications down, the only way to help Val, Kem, Adam, and the rest is by stopping the fleet before it can launch. Seg leads the group through the tunnels into Fort Roz, where they are cornered by patrolling Sagitari. Seg and Nyssa surrender, allowing Jayna and Dev to continue the mission.

Jayna and Dev are likewise captured by a pair of Sagitari, but are saved by Lyta. Dev is dubious; they know that Lyta was reconditioned by Zod and they all saw her killed on Wegthor. Lyta recounts her tale. This is the best chance for the three to escape, but when jayna tells Lyta that Seg has returned and has been captured, Lyta refuses to leave without him.

Seg and Nyssa are taken to Zod. Zod wants to know about where and how the resistance is holed up on Wegthor. Seg doesn’t know and reconditioning doesn’t work on him. Zod has the two placed in a cell until he returns to personally oversee Nyssa’s conditioning. While in the cell, Seg commits to Nyssa to finding their son and being a family. Dev releases the two and leads them in their escape while Lyta and Jayna set off false alarms in the fleet hangar, leading the Sagitari away.

The group is reunited. Seg and Lyta embrace and kiss, while Nyssa feels cast aside. Zod, furious at losing his two captives and his mother order the launch to be moved up. He plans to wipe out all life on Wegthor right now.
